The layout, motifs and borders are planned together, giving the artisan a guide for the carpet’s design.

Silk & colour

Silk yarns are selected in the colours needed for the design. The palette brings depth and definition to each motif.
The foundation

Loom preparation

The silk foundation is set up on the loom and held under even tension, ready for the hand knotting to begin.
The handwork

Knotting by hand

Silk knots are tied around the foundation threads, row by row. Each knot adds to the pattern and forms the carpet’s pile.
The finish

Washing & finishing

After leaving the loom, the carpet is washed and its pile is carefully finished, bringing clarity to the design and the silk’s natural sheen.
The final details

Inspection & packing

Our great-grandfather began working with Kashmir’s master craftsmen around 150 years ago, beginning a family relationship with Kashmiri craft that continues to this day.

Our Grand Father & his brothers

Peerzada Bashir-Ud-Din

Our grandfather, together with his brothers, carried the family’s work beyond Kashmir. They travelled across India, including Allahabad and Varanasi, introducing Kashmiri craftsmanship to customers far beyond the Valley and building relationships across the country.

Peerzada Naseer Ahmad

Our father and his brother worked alongside our grandfather from the ground up, helping shape every part of the business. They expanded manufacturing, built a strong wholesale presence in the local Kashmiri market, and established the family business as a trusted and respected name in Kashmir.

Fourth Generation

Today, the fourth generation carries the family’s work forward through KashmKari. Building on the relationships, craftsmanship and knowledge passed down through our family, we are taking Kashmiri craft directly to customers around the world while continuing to work with artisans here in Kashmir.
