About Us

Story of the birth of Kashmkari, 150 years ago

Our great-grandfather and his master craftsmen weaved the first piece of Kashmiri art 150 years ago. Since then, 100s of families of indigenous artisans have joined Kashmkari and have helped spread Kashmir’s timeless art all over the globe.

I, Hamees and my brother Noumaan are the fourth generations of admirers and enthusiasts of this gift of art given by God to our land, known as the “Heaven on earth.” Over the years, our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather have dedicated themselves to crafting wonders for the world..

Stories of artisans behind every piece of clothing Kashmkari produces

We are working on conserving and reviving the legacy of one of the richest art forms in the world. Every piece of clothing you see on our website is made possible because of the efforts of indigenous artisans and their families that earn their living through Kashmiri art.

Every story is unique and will take you closer to the feelings of these artisans and the stories we are trying to share with the world. Almost every product on our website has pictures and stories of the artisans that contributed towards making that piece of clothing a reality.

Traditionally, the artists in the Kashmiri area have not been blessed with the resources they need to spread the brilliance of our art globally. Kashmkari is an effort towards giving these artisans the platform and resources they need to revive and flourish our indigenous art forms.

The blend of cultural influences and different artforms

Each of our designs represents the beauty and essence of ethnic Kashmiri art. The art engulfs in itself the influences of British and European fashion, along with a representation of the countless changes this land has gone through.

Traditions of the hand ‘charka’, hand embroidery, yarn-making processes, and other gifts from our forefathers give each piece a unique look, feel, and story that you cannot ever get enough of!
