The making of a men's shawl

Hand embroidered Men's shawl, stitch by stitch

Follow a square rumal as its borders and paisley motifs take shape through fine Sozni needlework, careful finishing and a final fold.

The journey repeats gently. Select any step to take a closer look.

A hand-embroidered men's rumal taking shapeSeven scenes show fabric selection, thread dyeing, Chapai outlines and fine straight-needle Sozni embroidery on a square olive rumal. Dense leafy borders and corner paisleys appear in rust, ivory and muted teal, before washing, pressing, inspection and a diagonal fold into a triangular shawl for packing.

A square rumal begins with carefully selected fabric, with room for its borders and corner motifs.

Our Family Archive

A 150-Year Family Legacy

Our Great-Grandfather

Peerzada Saif-Ud-Din

Our great-grandfather began working with Kashmir’s master craftsmen around 150 years ago, beginning a family relationship with Kashmiri craft that continues to this day.

Our Grand Father & his brothers

Peerzada Bashir-Ud-Din

Our grandfather, together with his brothers, carried the family’s work beyond Kashmir. They travelled across India, including Allahabad and Varanasi, introducing Kashmiri craftsmanship to customers far beyond the Valley and building relationships across the country.

Our Father & his brother

Peerzada Naseer Ahmad

Our father and his brother worked alongside our grandfather from the ground up, helping shape every part of the business. They expanded manufacturing, built a strong wholesale presence in the local Kashmiri market, and established the family business as a trusted and respected name in Kashmir.

Fourth Generation

Noumaan & Hamees

Today, the fourth generation carries the family’s work forward through KashmKari. Building on the relationships, craftsmanship and knowledge passed down through our family, we are taking Kashmiri craft directly to customers around the world while continuing to work with artisans here in Kashmir.
